-pops- Posted September 16, 2005 Report Share Posted September 16, 2005 It seems to me that it was not so much a failure of the authorities but a refusal to acknowledge that things were as bad as they were and a refusal of any outside aid.I have written here before and had it verified by another member that help was available from both the UK commercial airlines and the RAF that all crew were put on emergency standby to fly anything that would or could be required to assist in the disaster. This even extended to an offer of cancelling their normal scheduled flights if necessary. This was refused at both a local and federal government level with, it seems, an ill grace.Despite Bush at this very late stage accepting responsibility, I am now thinking that the next time something like this happens in the USA (and it will) then the offers of assistance will not be so easily forthcoming - which is a very, very sad situation for the population of the USA.Meanwhile, Bush very quickly regained his characteristic, self-satisfied smirk which he wears on every possible occasion.I am very pleased that Michael Moore is busy making a film about this total and utter failure of the Bush administration.
