deuces wild
Thanks for the feedback folks. I stopped in to pick up some supporting PM's and read the thread.A couple of points as it seems I am being mischaracterized by a few here:1. It has been said that I was the author of threads bashing the US. Not true. What is true is that posts that I started, eg Katrina/Red Cross, often turned into US bashing by others. In the Katrina/Red Cross thread someone actually had the gall to call me a racist. I was also told to leave the forum by another member via PM because he/she did not agree with me politically.I have just looked back through the alleged US bashing posts in the lounge and find that most of the posts have been started by D W anywayPerhaps you can list those threads. 2. I know I have an option to overlook the constant US/Bush bashing here. I know members have an option to express opinions about anything they want. All I said is that the bashing is becoming more and more frequent and the forum has not become a fun place to visit. I also said that I have not read many threads that discuss economic, social and political problems on your side of the pond to the extent of the US/Bush bashing being done.I am still trying to sort this out. Please continue discussing but do not mischaracterize me, my conduct or my intentions for leaving.
Robbers Dog
If topics are posted in the wrong forum, it's easy enough for the mods to move them to the appropriate section.

Because I start a thread on a natural disaster and the need for donations to the Red Cross I should be open to US and Bush bashing?Only in your mind I guess. Now if there were other threads that I started that naturally opened the door to US bashing, I would like to see them. It is easy for you to make an allegation, and when asked to prove it put the onus on me to find them.

CurlyWhirly
Well I did not leave after receiving a PM from you asking me to.....now did I? :rolleyes:Glad to hear it DW. I love a good debate myself but realise that other people's views and opinions can easily be taken personally. I know as I have done it in the past

doug
That wasn't his point. As I see it he was perfectly correct in getting miffed at threads that he started - e.g. the appeal for donations to The Red Cross for the Katrina disaster - being taken off topic and dissolving into Bush bashing. This has happened several times and I think we mods will have to start clamping down, in public. Our normal routine is to check among ourselves and warn an offending individual by pm. We are trying to keep a friendly and open Forum covering a wide range of issues. So far it has been quite successful and we have a very good group of members who wish to share and help.

catgate
after receiving a PM from you asking me toAs far as I can remember I did not "ask you to leave". That would be far outside my remit. I can not remember the exact words, and, because the PM was not sufficiently important, I did not keep a copy. However, I know that what I did was to suggest that the time had probably come for you to find a forum where every one held the same views as yourself. (A suggestion that has also appeared above.) It was PMed to you to avoid you any possible public discomfiture. I could quite easily have posted it here on the board, but chose not to.Mischief making is not part of my makeup.
