edbanger
There as been no mention on this forum of the earthquake that has occurred in the Kashmir region of Pakistan and India, with at the moment 20,000+ deaths. This is one of the poorest regions in Asia and aid is needed now.I urge everyone to please make a donation, no matter how small to the Red Cross or one of the many charities that can be found online. doug
Very good point. I must say that we seem to have been having a run of disasters lately. Thoughts go out to all the victims.
-pops-
Son in law has just flown in from taking a plane load of volunteers and medical aid to Islamabad. He says that he could never have imagined the devastation he saw when flying over Kashmir. Whole cities look like they are squashed flat. He's off again tomorrow evening flying another plane load of medical staff from several European countries and more medicines and medical equipment. He's supposed to be having a week off.

andsome
I made a donation on line yesterday, and would urge everyone to do so. These are desperately poor people at the best of times. I cannot help but feel that we could well see more of this type of disaster.
-pops-
I have deleted a number of contributions to this thread - the ones that wandered away from the subject (including my own).If you feel you want any re-instated, let us know. Thanks
andsome
Can they be put into another thread and headed Causes of all these natural disasters, or something similar?
edbanger
I did not ask for any posts to be removed, I only pointed out the reason we seemed to have wandered off topic. If anyone still wants to contribute to the disaster fund, have a look here.http://www.dec.org.uk/
-pops-
I removed the divergent posts as they were diluting the real impact and purpose of your thread, edbanger. It was entirely my decision and I take full responsibility for what I did.I'm sure you will agree with me that this second lead off-topic shouldn't be continued.Pakistan and the Kashmirs are in desperate need of assistance in whatever way it can be given. My son in law is flying a second 747 full of volunteers and supplies at the moment and he is due out again on Monday. He is doing this all for free. The most useful help we, as individuals, can give is money. This is most easily converted into the aid that is of most help to the peoples suffering in this horrendous disaster.
doug
Entirely agree with everything pops has done and said.
andsome
The powers that be have said that cash is far better than goods, as what is needed can then be purchased as near as possible to the countries in question, and sent to the right areas. Come on folks dig VERY deep.
