I read in the press that the UK are now buying large quantities of electricity from France via a cable laid across the channel.

This possibly explains why my oven burns lamb to a crisp and my radio switches off every time some News on Iraq is broadcast.

I have also noticed a strong smell of garlic eminating from the meter cupboard.

Surely you know the French under cook all their meat, your lamb should have been at most Pink, there is obviously an overload on the cable :)

You are overlooking the fact that the French have burned our sheep - and evidently continue to do so.

A large proportion of French electricity is produced by nuclear power in power stations dotted along the northern French coast - located just right so that if anything goes wrong, all the radioactive pollution will be blown over to us in the UK

This question of buying electricity is a puzzle in itself, from wheresoever it is "bought".

Mains electricity is A/C and thus changes polarity, and its direction of flow, at regular intervals (in our case 50 times per second). Thus what travel down the wire in one second goes back up it, to from whence it came, the following second. The amount which comes down the positive wire must be equal to that which travels up the negative wire otherwise the RCD would trip out. On this basis WE CONSUME NO ELECTRICITY. No matter how big the load on the circuit, all of that which comes down one wire goes back up the other....50 times per second.

Under these cicumstances why are we charged for "using" it? It is not resident in our wires long enough to even charge us rent on it.
