If this still doesn't do the trick, right-click the desktop, point to Arrange Icons By and make sure that Lock Web Items on Desktop is un-checked. The use of the "drop shadow" box had no effect BUT you put me on the right lines. There is a box on the same path which can be checked saying "show translucent rectangle".
