Lightscribe

Recommended Posts

I have just added a HP lightscribe drive to one of my computers and it picked it up no problem.

HP had provided a CD with software, so I thought I would install it to have a look.

When the icons came up on the desktop, one of them was Symantec so I clicked on the icon to see exactly what it was (big mistake) as soon as I clicked on the icon it started to install so I cancelled it and it gave me the BSOD so I rebooted the computer and the installer came up again which resulted in a BSOD again when I cancelled it.

So I tried safe mode and system restore and everthing is back to normal (next was a restore from Acronis)

Just a warning if anyone buys a HP lightscribe drive be careful with the HP software disk unless you want Symantec installed, which I certainly did not.

I remember that many years ago an HP printer I had bought contained Norton A/V on one of the driver/software floppies. It installed without asking me and completely buggled up my computer as I had another A/V already in there.

That put me off buying anything with an HP badge on it.
