We want to be able to transfer data between our Desktop PCs and the laptop. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to the easiest/quickest/cheapest route to follow. An external hard drive is good for GB's of data as well.I have been fiddling with my external HD today, but I had little success. The laptop would not recognise the XHD. I suspect that the fact that I have a USB2 card in the PC, and the Lappy will be the old style USB, is not helping. Although in my ignorance I would have expected them to get along together...but slowly. I obviously need some other addition to make this method work. Incidentally we are on W98SE all round. Scarecrow Man Posted February 6, 2006 Report Share Posted February 6, 2006 You have a few options.USB Pen or HD. These often do not work with USB 1.0 or 1.1, but often with 2.0. If you require you can always add a USB 2.0 port to your desktop OR laptop. Your local computer shop should care both.Network. You can set up either a Wireless or Wired network with a router, or just use Cross-over cables for a direct connection.Either route you take, you can always ask for more help. I have more or less resolved to go wireless, and to that end have ordered a PCI wireless card for the PC, and a PCIMIA card for the LT. I was about to go looking for a router when I was suddenly assailed by the thought that I might suddenly run into compatibility problems.
