I've been on the production lines at Ford-Halewood, Vauxhall-Ellesmere Port, Peugeot-Coventry, all in the course of business when I used to engage in THAT FOUR LETTER WORD. It always amazed me just how much sitting about went on, and just how slow the tracks ran.

I really enjoyed that. Not much manual labour these days. I worked in garage for some years - the new cars always uses to arrive covered in wax. Not any more obviously.

Interesting. I toured the old Longbridge plant several times and was glad I never had to work there.

I also was given a tour around the Rolls Royce plant at Crewe by a relative who had a management job there. That was an eye-opener after Longbridge. Nothing but the best, materials, surroundings, workers and so on. Pity the marque has gone overseas.

I once wrote a program that took the information from the car production line and would give a report of the details of any vehicle at any point of the line at that time plus a full specification of that vehicle when finished. It was for what was then known as the 'Routes Group'

Working on the production lines seemed vwery Boring.
