Updating drivers

Recommended Posts

Have been having a bit of bother due to startup problems on my PC, which I have posted in other threads. At the moment I been using a couple of links, via Google, and both have run checks on my PC and say that I have out dated drivers including my SIS PCI IDE controller. I've tried looking at the Elite M/B site for updates without success (K7S5A Ver. 3.1). These two driver sited will only let me do any downloads after making a paid up subscription. Agin my principles (pocket)! Any suggestions as to what to do next? I've been through M$ but there are no updates outstanding.

I'm with Scarecrowman here, doug. I would NEVER update any drivers if the current ones were working. I've seen what happens when people use these driver update sites they come across in the web and update all sorts of things willy-nilly just because the site tells them to.

I had a machine to look at only last week where someone had done this and wrecked his system by updating graphics drivers unnecessarily. A whole system re-install that was because he didn't have any backup.

Hi

I have built about 10 PC's with this mother board over the last 4 years or so, and all of them are still running perfectly fine on the original drivers that came on the CD with the mother board.

My problem is that I don't know if it's a software or hardware problem. Device manager says all devices are working properly and have run sfc, yet I still get this startup problem. wondering if I should do a re-install over the top of the existing system.
