-pops- Posted March 31, 2006 Report Share Posted March 31, 2006 My main machine takes a couple of minutes or so to boot up fully but there is a lot of stuff on it so, I'm not surprised. What I do is switch everything on in the morning and then go to make a cup of tea. By the time I get back it is there ready and waiting for me. I've never timed how long it takes to boot up as I think that doing such things will just introduce anxiety - making me think that things are not right.Another machine (the one I use for video and DVD) had much less on it and boots up very quickly and the old thing I lets the grand daughters use takes about a minute but, again, I've never actually timed it. AlanHo Posted March 31, 2006 Author Report Share Posted March 31, 2006 I am sure mine would be quicker if I deleted Outlook from the start-up list - but I am concerned that in so doing, I might defer loading Outlook manually, get engrossed on something else (like this forum) and miss one of the scheduled reminders. I remember a similar question on boot up times a few years ago when it took only 20 or 30 seconds to boot then, in those days Task Manager only had about 20 or so processes running...I now have 40.I'm never in a rush anyway, so it doesn't bother me. The larger the program is, the longer it will take.Try booting into safe mode, and you will notice your computer will take less than 1/2 the time to load. This is because no extra programs or drivers are loaded.EDIT:Just timmed it... 2:30 to logon screen, 20 seconds until hard disk stopped.
