AlanHo
I am having intermittent problems with Outlook when sending and receiving Emails.I am on Windows XP SP2, Outlook 2003, Blueyonder cable broadband. 3 Email accounts. With increasing frequency when I hit "Send and receive" a window pops up asking me to enter my network password. (I vaguely recall only ever seeing this window before when I was on dial-up connection a couple of years ago)See screen shotIf I now hit the OK button - the window sometimes goes away and the download starts - but sometimes the window flicks back on again repeatedly - whether I click "save password" or not. This might happen for each of my 3 Email accounts or any one of them with the others working OK.Sometimes if I close down Outlook and relaunch it - the problem goes away - sometimes I have to reboot the computer and even then the problem may re-occur and I am forced into using webmail to read my inbox. I can normally connect through webmail without problems,When having such problems I have tried using Outlook Express which sometimes works OK but on occasions betrays the same behaviour. This problem started a few months ago - for this and other reasons I decided to do a reformat and a reinstall of my OS and programmes. The problem then seemed to go away - but only for a short while - which may just have been circumstancial. The problem is driving me nuts - could it perhaps be problems at my ISP or is it definitely with my computer - if so what is the answer ? -pops-
As it's intermittent, occurs on both Outlook and OE and you haven't/don't made any changes to your machine, I would strongly suspect something at your ISPs end rather than yours
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
This is a problem that appears quite often (have a look at news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.general and search for 'password'). The most common solution is http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?id=290684; it's a three-step process described for each OS type. Let me know if this fixed your problem. -pops-
Pat, what concerns me is that the problem is intermittent. If there's an inherent error in Alan's setup, wouldn't the problem be constant?
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
It seems that many users that seek help in the Outlook NG have it intermittently. Sometimes the problem goes away by deleting and redefining the user account. (Which may result in re-downloading all email messages if they keep them on the server). AlanHo
Have carefully done the registry change and re-entered the password to each Email account - but it has made no difference. My primary account is working OK and will send & receive - but the two other accounts will not connect.I have tried deleting the offending accounts and recreating them - but when testing the accounts I am again asked to re-enter the password repeatedlysee screen shotI am beginning to think it may be the server at fault - what say you? ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I assume that you each time check Save password in password list?
AlanHo
I assume that you each time check Save password in password list?Yes I do.I have gone through the MS regedt32 procedure again - even more carefully with similar results. One interesting thing was that I tried launching Outlook and downloading Email before I followed the MS procedure to re-enter the passwords - to find that Outlook worked OK on my primary account - but failed on the two secondary ones. Looking at the accounts in Outlook revealed that there was still a password entered in each account so I over-wrote them and tried again. Still no luck.I really am baffled. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
The next option would really be to go into the Microsoft newsgroup I indicated above, and search for the hundreds of entries that have the same password issue. I have not paid attention to these in the past, and right now I am unable to go read them all :(
trackrat
Alan I have had that problem with Blueyonder and generally I find it has gone away the next day, which is a pain in the backside but Telewest do not have any idea why it occurs randomly, so it looks like it is one of those things that they will have to look into in more depth. Earlier today I got a friend to set up my Email accounts on his computer - he is a fellow blueyonder customer and does not usually have the same problems. But he did with my accounts. An hour later we both tried connecting again and all was OK - so it must be blueyonder and not me.A friend just sent me this - he was getting a bit fed up of waiting for some info from me
