Incorrect Function!!

Recommended Posts

I've had my camera 5 years now and my PC is stuffed to bursting with happy holiday pics. In fact when processing new images in Photoshop, I keep getting a window pop up telling me of insufficient memory.

Anyway, I decided to burn all my current stuff to disc to free up some memory. But when I go to 'My pictures', select the images, insert a disc, I get the message....E:\ is not acessible, incorrect function.

Also, I've noticed that in the option window 'Burn to CD' does not appear. Somehow the CD burner has forgotten that it is a recording device??

What is really confusing though, is that the same drive works fine when I attempt burning MP3 files to CD.

How come this drive will accept the Grateful Dead (MP3), but not my holidays in Luxor (jpeg)!!!!

What am i doing wrong? :(

If you are using XP have you tried right clicking just one picture and seeing if the right click menu gives you the option to burn to your CDRW, using Send to.----- E.

If it does highlight a picture, press Ctrl & A to select all of them and then right click and use the send to menu again.

Are you using the in-built Windows XP CD burner for doing this?

If so, from my experience on a number of machines, it is far from the best software for doing that.

Do you have any other optical disk burning software such as Nero? If so, use that.

If you don't have Nero, you can get it at a very good price from various sources - let us know if you want that information.

Thanks for the quick response everyone.

I'm using the XP 'My Pictures' facility. Have just tried the right click menu, and burn to CD is not listed, in fact the E: drive is not listed as a 'send to' option either.

I have seen Nero on ebay, I'll order one today. Are there any preliminary checks I can do just to make sure my drive is OK?

I don't think so. You may need to update it from the Nero website but, recent versions (6 or 7) aren't so pernickety as older ones.

Have you checked in Device manager to see if there are any red or yellow marks against your CDRW?, as just putting a disk in should bring you up options of what you want to do with it in XP.

It could be possible that your drive is heading to the great scrapyard in the sky.

Thanks Dadyassa, I'll try that too.

One thing I have noticed when trying to fix this problem is this:

When I right click the faulty CD-RW drive, then click properties...I don't get a 'Recording' tab appear. Is that normal? bearing in mind the drive will burn MP3 music discs.
