How do we put the great back

Hardly a day goes by without some posting on the Forum pointing out the fact that Great Britain is no longer great, things are going to pot, marriage is no longer a norm, family values have diminished, the lilly livered liberals have taken over, the PC brigade are suppressing our quality of life, the judicial system is in a mess, race relations are becoming critical, criminals are given more consideration than victims, prison is a holiday camp and not punishment, we are drowning in a sea of illegal immigrants, the young are disrespectful, terrorism is rife, the government is corrupt and intent on doing us down etc etc etc.

It so happens that I agree with most of such postings - there are many things wrong in our society and all we seem able to do is moan about it to one another. I cannot offer a solution but I often wonder how we managed to get ourselves into this mess. As a mature and relatively well educated society - how did we let the inmates loose to run the asylum and how do we stop it.

I am quite confident that just a change in government will not be enough - perhaps things will have to get a lot worse before we all recognise the severity of the problem and force the pendulum to swing the other way. I am one of the senior members of the Forum and will probably not live long enough to see it happen - I just feel so sorry for my children and especially my grandchildren who will have to live through it.

The answer to the conundrum is simple, and at the same time complex (well it's politics, and nothing is simple there, with the exception of the politicians).

Simple:-

Put the decision making where it should be i.e. the people. Generally speaking, the collective view of the population, if opinion polls are any guide, is usually at variance with the view of the government, and therefore must be correct.

Complex:-

Achieving the above.

As a mature and relatively well educated society - how did we let the inmates loose to run the asylum and how do we stop it.

We come into this world and accept what we find as "Normal". We can do nothing else. So any talk of degradation, by old fogies, is seen as something of a distortion and a joke by the young. After all, due to their inexperience they know much better than the silly old beggers. It is not until they receive experience and become aware of the recurrent patterns, that they too see all is not well. Unfortunately they are by then, as we old buffers on here are, too old to change things. Meanwhile the entrenchment of what can only be classed as universal evil, becomes stronger and stronger.

The only hope that I can see is for some enlightened group to become the elected 'party', and then set about dismantling the corrupt system from within, and replacing it with a system of true democracy, where the decisions are made by the people and are implemented by a carefully supervised civil service.

The business of "Well I can't be arsed to go and register my preferences" will allow the current corruption to thrive.

Political correctness is the problem....

If the coppers clip round the ear was still active then a lot what happens today would not happen.

There is no fear of the law or the courts.

EXACTLY!

Very True, there is also no fear of being corrected by anyone or anything except in the area where a thought, deed or pronouncement is deemed to be Political Incorrect.

edit: unless you are a lawful car driver
