dgg9879 Posted June 12, 2006 Report Share Posted June 12, 2006 My boarder recently left because I didn't want to share my internet connection with him so now I need to look for a new boarder and it seems most boarders want to share the internet so I'm re-thinking my stance on this.I have 256 speed (5 times faster than dial-up) unlimited internet with AANET (I can download as much as I like at no extra cost) and it is very reliable.I don't want cords around the place so I would want the other guy to connect in with my internet using a wireless method.I would want the boarder to pay for all the equipment and set it all up or get a friend of his to do it.How much hassle/risk is there for me if I let someone share my internet connection? nellie2 Posted June 12, 2006 Report Share Posted June 12, 2006 You would need a wireless router.. and if I were you I would retain control of this so that if there were any problems you can go in and change the wireless connection password and effectively lock your boarder out of the connection if you wished to.I would think seriously about this as if there is any illegal downloading done then you would liable. Although if you get a good router then you can block some sites I think.I share my connection with my family and have no problems and no performance dips that I'm aware of, although I do have a friend who's son is into online gaming and he ended up getting him his own connection! scuzzman Posted June 13, 2006 Report Share Posted June 13, 2006 dgg9879 is referring to using a router and their boarder (I assume this is like a roommate?) will have their own computer and they will share just the connection.Aside from the file-sharing nellie has mentioned, there is little to worry about. You'll not notice much of a performance hit if all you're doing is surfing the web and checking your email.
