ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Since installing the newest version of ZoneAlarm last week I started to encounter problems during Windows shutdown. Two messages are popping up alternately, and sometimes Windows cannot shut down completely.Yesterday I needed to close all applications in the systray, and after closing ZoneAlarm, the same pop-ups appeared endlessly. I was unable to launch any other programs after that, and I also could not shut down Windows. Here are the error pop-ups I getAnyone else having issues with the new ZoneAlarm? Boris
My own are all fine with it - and I've successfully installed it on another 6 machines as well - all trouble free so far (since 5 June when that version was released).
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
OK, problem resolved! But it wasn't quite easy; here are the steps I tookDownloaded the latest ZA version 6.5.714Installed it over the existing 6.5.700 as "Clean Install"The installer was unable to shut down ZA, and the installation failedWent into Safe Mode to uninstall ZABack into normal mode I was unable to open the installer due some file 'zpy.dll' being missingSearched for remaining ZA files vsconfig.xml, vsdata.dll, vsdata95.vxd, vsdatant.sys, vsmon.*, vsmonapi.dll, vsnetutils.dll, vspubapi.dll, zaplus.*, zapro.*, zllictbl.dat, zlparser.dll, zonealarm.exe, zoneband.dll, vsutil.dllUnable to delete in normal mode, so I went again into Safe Mode to delete themBack in normal mode I was successfully able to install 6.5.714Unfortunately all my program and Internet settings have disappeared. It will take me a few days to get everything back...
andsome
NEVER had any problems at all with Zone Alarm. :D :D :DWhat I usually do if a program gives me trouble is to uninstall it. Then do a search for files and folders for that program and delete them, followed by using Crap Cleaner and RegScrub XP. I then use regedit, and save a copy of the registry, then check for and delete any entries for that program. This gets rid of any corruptions which have occurred. A clean reinstall then usually works OK. It seems obvious that something has caused a corruption somewhere, and it would be a shame to dump what most people find is a excellent program. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
NEVER had any problems at all with Zone Alarm. :D :D :DWhat I usually do if a program gives me trouble is to uninstall it. ...I had ZoneAlarm since version 3.7, and never had any problems with it. But this time uninstalling was impossible due to the original problem in the first post, so I had to uninstall in Safe Mode. Also, I didn't know (then) that there is a /CLEAN option with the uninstaller that removes everything. No backup? :(You know me better than that :) But... I do not know how to selectively restore the ZoneAlarm settings. Yeah, I could have done a full restore, which would have restored me to 6.1.Well, it's working now, and most of my everyday programs are back in the ZA Programs list. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Everything "seemed" to be fine yesterday...This morning I found the systray near empty; almost all permanent icons were gone. ZA was still there. To remedy the situation I rebooted. When trying to start up Windows: BSOD! I tried five times, but it would never load - stall somewhere before the login.I finally went into Safe Mode and did a /CLEAN uninstall. Now Windows loads again...Not sure what to do - reinstall 6.1, or wait for a corrected version of 6.5..?
