File search window

First, forgive me, I'm not a Windows expert so I don't have all the lingo, but I need some help.

when ever I would like to upload a file to an email, or send a file on messenger, the window that opens is acting strange lately.

I can no longer see the files and folders in alphabetical order, all the files and folders are mixed in random order. it makes it hard to find files. is this because of a virus or do I have some settings mistake

oh, and gmail says my browser cache is full.. no matter how many times I empty it with internet tools or systemsworks... I still get this message...

If you use XP, have you tried a System Restore to a time before the problem occurred? Do you have a back up that you could install?

If you are using Windows Explorer to find your files you can modify their order quite easily.

In the right hand pane click on "Name" and they will be sorted in alphabetical order - click on "Name" again and the order will be reversed.

You can also click on colum headings "Size" - "Type" - "Date Modified" etc and they will be sorted by size, type or date.

thanks, I tried both and nothing worked... even tried reinstalling windows but that didn't work either

thanks, it's not explorer, it the small search box that opens to find files to attach or send when attaching a file to an email or sending a file on messenger

I tried to replicate this. The box that opens after opening New Mail and clicking "Insert-->File", is the search box for my computer. The drop down menu then takes me to "My Docs" etc, so I can search down to any file and attach it.

Is it that box which has gone haywire?

this is what happens, an example

MSN Messenger (V.7.5 if that makes a difference)

if I am chatting, and wish to send a file, I click send file.. and the search box opens...

then the view in that box is all out of order.

some other programs happen like that too,

but My computer, explorer.. the files are fine

is there a file setting that I got wrong? like list by file size, not by name...

I don't know how to fix it and I won't even bother asking microsoft...

You reinstalled Windows, and that sort problem didn't go away? Did you install from scratch (formatting C:\), or just installed over the top?

I just installed ontop of the old windows, I didn't want to loose my files with a harddisk format
