HDD compatibility

Recommended Posts

What does the WF committee's knowledge base have on HDDs? I have Googled, (probably in all the wrong places) but can not find definative answers to the following :-

What are the constraints, likely to be encountered, in running both a SATA drive and an ATA drive, side by side, from the same motherboard (yes it has both types of connectors)?

Will older HHDs run happily with current higher speed systems? ( I'm not talking modern Grand Prix machinery)

Is there any more tea in that pot?

We don't have a committee, as such, just the knowledge that's passed on by the various members to each post as they come. Some of the other Mods and Admins do have very specialist knowledge on computer related issues - not myself, I'm just make weight. I'm certain that you will get very informed replies to this.

All mobos with both PATA and SATA controllers support PATA and SATA drives at the same time, no problems at all.

I have never had a problem and i have used several different drives in the past while. No SATA and PATA compatibility problems at all.

I usually install the operating system on the SATA drive first and then add the PATA drive(s)
