Thos Posted August 26, 2006 Report Share Posted August 26, 2006 I couldn't believe my eyes when I read this:-The Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc has received a police caution after blessing himself during a match against Rangers.Fans complaind to police after the Polish player openly crossed himself during the Old Firm game, where rivalry evokes religious differences, at Glasgow's Ibrox stadium on Feb 12. A report was sent to the procurator fiscal.The Crown Office said Boruc's actions had taken place in a charged atmosphere and had provoked alarm and crowd trouble. This constituted a breach of the peace.As an alternative to prosecution Boruc, 26, has been cautioned, which gives him a criminal record.Now I, personally do not believe a sign of the cross will give you a good or a bad game, but the practice is so widespread that it is hard to believe that anyone should get worked up about it, unless, of course, they are looking for something to cause trouble and a sign of the cross is as good a hook to hang it on as anything.Thos. Do they honestly think that their God will make them play better or even win? However this episode is absolutely ridiculous and show up PC at its very worst. There must have been some real thick idiots in the crowd also, to have got themselves worked up over this. Yet another case of religion rearing its VERY VERY ugly head. Thos Posted August 29, 2006 Author Report Share Posted August 29, 2006 Fairness leads me to point out that I have been guilty of doing what I castigate others for doing, that is jumping to conclusions when I only know a bit of the story.Mr Artur Boruc was cautioned for inciting the crowd in other ways than making the sign of the cross, thus inflaming the loonies in an already tense situation. It is something that has always puzzled me, especially with those who have later been found guilty of cheating. Many footballers do it, and then go onto the field and try to chop another players legs from beneath him, or equally as bad they take a dive and pretend that they have been injured. Hypocrites of the worst order. Equally as bad as those who go and ask forgiveness on a Sunday, then go out and commit more crimes etc during the following week. The Mafia come to mind.
