music files in explorere

Hi there

First post so bear with me....

I have a lot of music files.

Somehow....(such a common word on here), when i open my music folder it just shows all the artisits and not the albums. So this result in several thousand files.

All I want is to open folder and see what albums are in there, not all the artisits.

ie: if i have an album which features several artists, its presently showing a folder for every single artisit not jsut one folder for the album.

To get around this I have tried to go to View, choose details and only choose Album title..but its also shows name, and I cannot uncheck this. Even so with both checked i still have problem

Any one come across this or had problems?

Hello frog61, welcome to WF

In explorer the name column is the filename, not the artist name. ;)

You know how to add the Album column, so drag that to the second position after name. Now click the top of the column where is says Album Title. This will sort your long list of music files into album order.

It's something I have to do often. B)

And then you can have whatever columns you want in whatever order you like :)

This is still not working.

What i have done is;

Gione to view, choose details, I have checked Album title and name. For some reason I cannot uncheck Name.

I am still left with over 1600 files!

I have around maybe 300 Albums on this pc.

It is displaying still only the artisits not the albums at this level.

However when i click on a file say Chris rea, it then bring up the album name folder and in there will be all songs.

How can i display a list of all the albums? rather than having to click on each individual artisit for their song/album.
