Stop Junk Mail

There was an article in the Daily Mail this morning explaining that you can stop the postman from delivering unaddressed junk mail to your house by either writing to Royal Mail or by sending an Email.

I think you may be misunderstanding the junk mail being referred to. This is not addressed mail but rather the unaddressed stuf delivered door-to-door by the postman nowadays. There are no "return"

envelopes, they are merely leaflets and in our house go straight into the paper recycling box. I tried yesterday to use the [email protected] e-mail address to stop it but it has apparently been overwhelmed and the web postmaster keeps returning it.

Yes I did misunderstand. That sort just gets put straight into recycling, as do all the loose advertising leaflets in the free papers. We read adverts in the body of the paper, but scrap all inserted leaflets, they are an irritation.

Another good thing to stop all those phone calls (UK) from "marketing" companies etc is T.P.S.. They remove your number from lists that are circulated and after a few months you hardly get any more. If you do then you just ask them "Where did you get my number from?" and tell them that you are "TPS registered". They either panic and hang-up or say they are sorry and go. You even get a few reporting slips that you can fill in with the company name/ number and time of call etc. that you can send in to be dealt with for persistent callers.

That true enough. Though it doesn't stop calls from call centres overseas, TPS does a good job in the UK, I find.

As far as "door-to-door" junk mail is concerned, I did finally get through to their e-mail address but there was only an instruction to write and a pro-forma to tell you to certify that you understand that you may not, if you opt out, receive important communications, for example from your local council. Our council does not use that service but the Royal Mail tactics of delay and difficulties did the trick. I can't be bothered.
