Now I have hundreds and want to get rid of some of them as never use them.I have Webshots and use just a few as someone said these take up space and run all the yime using my Ram? 256 supposedly.although my crap cleaner says less.thanks - remember - me is dumb step by step plse Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted September 3, 2006 Report Share Posted September 3, 2006 I don't know if this is the "approved way" but I have removed unwanted screensavers in the past by searching for files with the extension .scr and deleting the ones I don't wish to keep.So go to Start -> Search. In the box on the left click on All files and folders then type .scr in the small box at the top. Click on Search and let it do its job. You will get a list of files which have the .scr extension. RIGHT click on any file you wish to remove and click Delete. I suggest you don't remove any of the default Windows screensavers - just in case. PopsErr forgot to ask - how do you remove the ones on the other panel. Desk top?Similar but with another .something?Lots of old stuff on there too. -pops- Posted September 3, 2006 Report Share Posted September 3, 2006 Do you mean desktop icons?If so, a RIGHT click on the icon will bring up a panel to enable deletion. This only removes the icon and not the program to which it relates in most cases. The program itself is removed either by its own removal program or from Add/remove programs in control panel.WXP has its own Desktop Cleanup facility which normally operates every few months and offers to place all unused icons in their own folder on the desktop.The official way:To remove unused desktop iconsOpen Display in Control Panel. On the Desktop tab, click Customize Desktop. Under Desktop cleanup, click Clean Desktop Now. Follow the directions in the Desktop Cleanup Wizard. NotesTo open Display, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display. The Desktop Cleanup Wizard displays a list of the desktop icons that have not been used for 60 days or more, enabling you to remove those icons that you don't want on your desktop. You can retrieve icons you have removed by opening the Unused Desktop Shortcuts folder on your desktop. Clear the Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard every 60 days check box if you don't want the wizard to run automatically every two months. You can remove an individual desktop icon by right-clicking the icon and then clicking Delete. To add or remove the icons for My Documents, My Computer, My Network Places, or Internet Explorer, select or clear those items under Desktop icons. They are not as easy to find as screensavers, as they may have any image file extension (.BMP, .JPG, etc.).Standard wallpapers are stored in C:\WINDOWS, but if you downloaded your own wallpapers, they may be anywhere.Right-click on the desktop, Properties, tab Desktop.
