File Sharing still around?

I used to use edonkey (a p2p file sharing app) to download a song or a book now and then. I just tried to open the software to search for a book and it tells me the network is shutdown for good and then the program tries to uninstall itself. The website basically says the same. Apparently after looking at the edonkey network wiki page yesterday, it has been shutdown by the RIAA on the 12th of September of this year. I guess more are in the process of being shutdown and sued. My question is, what ones are left and are they somehow going to try to prevent bit torrents as well?

I don't think that if they shut the whole lot down I will have a sleepless night. There will in all probability be a lot less virus's and Malware passed around. :D :D

I used to use KaZaA Lite until I accidentally downloaded a trojan which wiped my O/S and back then I didn't bother with backups!

I haven't used P2P for at least 3 years and would not be interested in them anymore.

I now buy my music online or off iTunes and I prefer it this way as, apart from it being legal, I know that I am much less likely to get infected with malware or tracked down by the RIAA or BPI :0

I was just wondering how many there are because it has always seemed when one goes down three more pop up. But since popular ones went down like napster, kazaa, morpheous and winmx, there hasn't been many springing up. I don't believe using these for pirating is good, but they have many many great things you can't find anywhere else. Thanks for the link trackrat. Have there been torrent programs that have been sued too.

What about Torrents? We use them loads. There are 100's of sites some public and some sign-up.

Limewire I believe has Spyware in it. Kazaa is full of it plus a few trojans!

I found this to be the best client and it is allowed on most, if not all, of the sites ---> h**p://www.utorrent.com/.

It is a very small and very low resource using tool and it's free. Prior to this I have used Azereus, ABC, Bitcomet plus others. Most are banned from Private sites now and only good for the public ones. I would also recommend PeerGuardian (Get this version --->v2.0 Beta 6b (09/18/2005)) or Protowall for torrents as they block the MPAA plus other dodgy IP's from getting your IP or details of what your getting etc. I once had an email from my IP from Universal Studios telling them to block people on their service from P2P? Peerguardian stopped this. :)

Usenet is by far the best "file sharing" outlet. I love Grabit, but I also like Newsleecher - http://www.newsleecher.com

I do not trust P2P programs like Limewire (Frostwire, the free version), Kazaa, e-Donkey, etc. Far too many fakes, viruses, trojans. The networks these days are just plain garbage.
