Redundant entries

Running Winxp Pro. Have just recently done a defrag and fresh install. I reloaded the backup I had previously carried out (all of files and settings). The reason for doing the re-installation was that I obviously had some conflicts because I was having booting up reliably, due to software conflicts - I think. I no longer have this problem and am booting up OK. Now I have a load of redundant entries in Start/All Programs which I cannot remove using the remove programs wizard. Can I only remove them by re-installing these unwanted programs or is there another way? I don't think I have all the original programs some were from downloads.

Have you tried a right click/delete doug on the application itself in the start/all programs list? I know that most can be removed from there as they are after all only shortcuts to the application. If that does not work then go to your C: drive, expand to the folder, 'Program files', left click on that and you will see all your program/application folders in there. Open the ones you want to delete individual files or just right click on the folder to delete the whole folder if that is what you want. Then do a search of your drive include hidden files/folders and delete any scraps it finds.
