registry entry denied

I want to change the screensaver from the one my daughter left on there when she moved to her own machine.

When hitting OK to the change, first get a SpyBot message: Registry entry changed; Category:Desktop setting; Change:value changed; Entry:scrnsave.exe; Old data: yadayada(orig); new data; yadayada(the one I want).

Then get Registry Entry Denied message pop-up from tool bar...back to orig screensaver.

Don't really want to venture into Regedit; not experienced enough, but...if I have to, could someone walk me through it safely. or is there another way. SpyBot's not causing this, is it? Just signalling a denied change, right?

My first reaction is that daughters (or anyone else) that makes alterations to the way my computers work can expect a very short lifespan. Why did your daughter make this change?

How are you trying to change the screensaver? There should be no need to go anywhere near the registry to change a screensaver which makes me very suspicious as to what it is.

Is it a commercial screensaver program you have installed? The reason I ask this is because these things have been known to be spreaders of things that are best not to have installed on your computer such as any number of types of malware.

How long have you had it installed? Any chance of doing a System Restore to a time before it was put in? Do you have a backup of your system before this was put in?

It is possible that Spybot's teatimer function is preventing you changing the screensaver.

To change this you need to open spybot in advanced mode, select Tools in the menu on the left, then resident, then take take the check mark out of the "Resident Teatimer" box, you should then be able to change your screensaver, you can then reset teatimer to protect your settings once more.

it is tea timer. at one point and time, he denied the change and told it to always answer. i ran into the same delema.

if i were you i would just disable Teatimer, under advanced > resident.

Teatimer is a nice feature but i find it personally rather useless. even if you denie entry's. the application waits for a system re-boot, and for Teatimer to close then sets it.
