It IS an interesting development, but I still cannot follow how it is known that the mice can see after treatment, let alone before!

My wife is going in for her second cataract operation on Monday. If it goes as well as the first one we will be delighted.

Simple. They do the obvious. They say to the mice, "Can you see?" and if the mice say,"Yes." They know it has all been a roaring success.

I happen to know the answer - they show the mice a stuffed cat - if they flinch it indicates they can see. If they take a quick look and then take no notice it indicates they can see really well and recognise that it is not a real cat.

Simple really - I am surprised you didn't think of that.
