Scarecrow Man
Microsoft will make an up-front payment to Novell of $240m to use Novell's version of Linux, as well as $108m in terms of the patent part of the agreement. In exchange for this, Novell will pay Microsoft a percentage of the sales generated by SUSE Linux at a minimum of $40m a year for five years. One would be forgiven for questioning what Novell gets in terms of the percentage sales payments to Microsoft. The software giant will give its support in developing and marketing SUSE Linux with Novell, and both companies will develop software that use both Windows and Linux.Full Story
catgate
Over the years Bill Gates has decimated any form of opposition by takeover, buy out or even piracy. He is obviously extremely worried that Linux could spell trouble for his empire. I do hope he fails this time.
-pops-
I thought the whole point of Linux was that it is open source thus its whole functioning is in the public domain. This being the case whatever it is that Novell have sold it is not Linux or not theirs to sell. catgate
Might it be that once having bought some sort of Linux associated intellectual property he may have corporate lawyer$ who could somehow migrate that right to something to which he has no legitimate claim. With the help of other lawyer$$$ of course. There have been some "rum goings on" in the past.
