God/Allah/Gordon Brown help us.

.....and he says he does not want to control the world.

Steady on.

You may dislike the idea, and frankly I am not too keen either, but there is some merit in considering ways to stop or at least limit the deterioration in behaviour of todays youngsters.

Thos.

You are absolutely right,Thos. Producing children carries responsibility. A lot of that responsibility centres around ensuring they are turned into civilised, honest human beings. It has started to be called "Parenting". If those who produce the children can just walk away from their responsibilty in this direction, and leave it to the rest of society, then may be other people can similarly walk away from their responsibilities in other areas?

It's funny isn't it how many people like my mother used to manage. She used to leave the house at 6-30 a.m. to take my sister to a child minder, do a full time job all day, collect my sister and get home at about 6-p.m. in the evening. We were brought up in a decent but VERY poor home to know right from wrong, and learned to respect other people and their property. She would never have been able to find the time to attend any classes on parenting. The same applied to many thousands of people in those days. Moving to the present there are still many many thousands of parents raising decent kids who do not booze or take drugs etc. Those in need of this nanny state idea should face their responsibilities and stop taking the easy option with their kids. Too many parents sit their kids in front of the TV with a plate full of junk food, spend most of the house keeping om over priced so called designer goods and mobile phones for the little brats, and think they are doing a grand job. No amount of nanny state classes will change these people, it needs a return to decent values, and the state STOPPING from interfering and preventing adequate discipline in the home and the school. Erring parents need punishing not coddling. this yet another daft idea from a government that is considering offering foreign criminals £2000 to return home. What is the next daft idea to be?

Sure it does. But living in the past talking of how well you were brought up is not going to improve things now.

The automatic assumption of guilt is getting ever closer now with the introduction of kerbside fingerprinting.

See here.

My understanding is that this procedure is a check on identification, where people suspected of giving a false name are checked against the criminal database. Not a bad idea, in my opinion.

What if that criminal database just happens to contain a false name that happens to be yours? It could happen under current ideology.

George Orwell (whose name was actually Blair) didn't write in vain.

I wouldn't trust the Police or any goverment department to operate in a responsible manner in the area of keeping private and personal information. They say one thing and do another most of the time.
