New Mobo old HDD with Windows XP

Hey guys im new the this forum. I do have a little experience with PC's so if you guys can tell me what to do i may be able to fix it. I have a eMachine here with Windows XP. The Power Supply and Mobo went out so i replaced them instead of the Intel mobo i should a different brand (PC CHips). Aftering installing the Mobo and PSU I pressed the booted up and I am not able to access anything (No Normal

ode, No Safe Mode and No recovery Console) I understand Windows NT/2000/XP has HAL.dll but isnt there away around that?

The XP installation on the HDD "knows" the M/B, CPU, BIOS, etc. that it was installed on and if this is altered then Windows will not boot.

The only way to get around this is a complete fresh install of WXP - which relies on you having an XP installation disk which I'm thinking from what you have told us, you may not have.

E-Machines usually come with a restore CD rather than proper XP and motherboard driver CDs. The restore CD is locked to the original motherboard as far as I can establish.

I have a XP disc but this is not my PC its a relatives I was just trying to help. Is it possible to Back-up so that all Applications or programs show up in "Programs" under the Start Buttom. I want to Back-up their system so when they click on a Short-cut on the Desktop they can access that program like before.

I think you would have to re install the programs/applications, that are not a part of XP such as Office etc., as well as when you re install XP the registry will not have the required info to run these applications. You would however be able to copy/restore from backup any DATA; photos or documents for these applications.
