makzan Posted November 29, 2006 Report Share Posted November 29, 2006 I've just been reading about Vista and I was wondering how it compared to XP, Linux, Macs, etc from a more technical view.Most complaints about MS OS I have heard in the past are about windows using too much memory, crashing frequently/too much, being too slow, limiting what the user can do, along with many other niggling aspects.So how does Vista compare to other OS and previous MS options? It's true..That is true, but you always have the problem that the majority of users will use windows over linux. So, by not learning how to use vista in your current job or at home, you're going to have problems if you have to work on any machine with vista (which, as said, will most likely be the majority).It's all interesting reading. imho i'll learn vista when i have to and linux if i have to! CJM Posted December 13, 2006 Report Share Posted December 13, 2006 Having been using Macs for years and just recently started using Windows, I think Vista is going to be better. It appears that the features in Vista are similar to those of OSX, but Microsoft has taken them a bit further, and made them more practical. OSX is nice no doubt, overall everything feels modular on the Mac and more integrated on Windows. I think this will give Vista the edge overall, in my opinion. Vista is still in a BETA stage, meaning Microsoft has not yet tested it on many types of hardware. Slip Kid Posted February 19, 2007 Report Share Posted February 19, 2007 I'm currently running Vista Ultimate. It's not bad at all. My web camera is a little slow at times, but I just installed new updates for that. As far as smooth running is concerned; Windows XP has a slight edge. Given that Vista really has been out for a month it could only get better (in theory). It definitely has a wonderful UI. Perhaps that is it's downfall as well. Rich in texture, high in memory usage.All in all though I'm happy with it. I mean does it always do the things you want it to ? Because I find it very very very very annoying. And las night it was awfull since I made it to crash explorer and got something ugly there. And the crap with user home dir in Doc and Settings not being readable by user. Come on ! I re-set it since I was looking for a movie that downloaded in the temp file and it took me 5 minutes to get to it. The UI looks great, but they could've stole the good parts too from other OS'es.
