I beleive that the cause of this was that i downloaded a file from the internet and it was downloaded successfully however when it had finished i did not shut the computer down properly as i was in a hurry so i just held the power button down and just turned it off. Then when i came to turn it on again the computer did not load to the profiles screen just restarted itself halfway through. I then went through a system restore process that is provided on my computer (not windows) but after having done this my computer is back to when it was new with nothing saved and no files having been restored. I have tried system restore on help and support but the only save point was today. If anyone knows how i can restore these files or just get my computer back to how it was it will be greatly appreciated as i have nothing to go on. Thanks a lot. :)Do you mean by this that you used a System Recovery disk provided with your computer in place of a real Windows disk?If so, combined with other things you wrote, things are not looking good. It appears that you have re-installed Windows and in the process of doing that, lost all of the personal files that you had on your computer.If what I think is actually the case then, apart from paying huge amounts of money to have the files professionally recovered (with no guarantee of success) there is little you can do.If I am wrong in my assumption, can you explain a little more about the process and the actions you carried out?In any case, can I strongly suggest that you make full and regular backups of your computer system when you get going again - especially before you make any changes and before you download and install any new software (or hardware). babysun Posted December 8, 2006 Report Share Posted December 8, 2006 You have used the restore process provided with PC then it means the PC is set back to factory default. In this case you have lost all your data. You can't do much about your data now, as the restore process reformats your hard disk and brings your PC back to the original position (brand new, untouched PC). This process removes any files you have created or saved. The Operating system is also restored, removing any updates or new programs.Unfortunatley you cannot get your data back, unless the restore tool you used has an undo tool. System restore is only showing 1 restore point, because it has also been erased in this process.Your software should have a warning telling you that all data will be erased, and restored to its original versions.
