truscotsman72
Right folks, I have an AMD running at 1800mhz, although I wonder if it can run at 2400mhz because my BIOs gives me the option to run it at 2400 (one of the reasons for this thread) and I have 3 ram slots, two with 256mb and one with 512mb. The problem is, personally I think my machine runs pretty unstable and lacking power, which im pretty sure its capable of. The reason for the thread is, I got lots running thru my head, I want my machine to be ready for vista if and when I chose it. I'm also toying with a dual boot system with XP/Linux, and when I try to recode vid files to dvd files it crashes when it used to before (I use nero for conversion) and Ive not changed anything so I dont understand why it doesnt recode anymore. So I downloaded a little prog called CPU-Z which basically tells u everything about your processor, mainboard and ram. I know my ram is very mismatched so Im gonna post snapshots of the programs results and can any of you give me any ideas? The snapshots show ram in slots 1,2 and 3 the mainboard and the CPUThank you :D
Alan2273
Looking at the CPU part your processor is running at 1493.8Mhz (1.5Ghz) not 1800 (1.8Ghz).To get it to run at 2400 (2.4Ghz) would be one hell of an overclock. All your memory will be running as Pc2100 133 DDR = 266 as the memory will only run as fast as the slowest module. It is amazing that with the different mix of memory modules and speeds that it is so stable.Have you tried uninstalling Nero and reinstalling it again, to see if the program was corrupted. Scarecrow Man
I agree with Alan, the fact that you are running different speeds of memoy modules can cause all sorts of problems. You should either remove #3, or exchanged the first two with something compatible to the third. When did this problem occur? After you installed the new ram, after installing Linux?

After you installed the new ram, after installing Linux?TBH neither of these. One day it worked fine (running the full gig) then it didnt, so I dropped the ram by removing the largest Dimm as this was a recent purchase, and it still refused to work. So i scan disk, defragged, virus checked, spyware check, registry clean, u name it and i did it, to make sure my machine was clean. I have now put the big DIMM back in and im back up to 1gb, but that was because I was experimenting with linux puppy from live cd, and it runs purely on ram (i got power hungry). I havent tried the decoding of vids recently, but I'll probs post the results on this thread next time I log on.As for linux installed. I dont have linux installed (yet). Im still experimenting with live cd's (knoppix and puppy). I wanted to do a dual boot, but partition magic is giving me errors that it cant partition the HD. Something to do with the NTFS file type (theres a thread on this forum discussing all of this)So, theres my problem. The reason I posted this thread was to figure out what ram I should get and I guess you all kinda answered my questions. Now I just have to figure out what ram to buy. Ive lost my motherboard manual and would like to know the max capacity of RAM it can handle, because if it can handle 2 gig, I'm there! :D :D :D
trackrat
Go to this page it will tell you what you want to know.http://www.motherboard.cz/mb/matsonic/MS8328E.htmIt says that your mobo will take 1.5Gb of memory in three slots. If you go to this site, it will scan you computer and tell you what memory is compatable.Use Internet Explorer for this site.http://www.crucial.com/uk/?gclid=CPql39Px-YgCFS5-MAodBiCVvg

truscotsman72
To sort my memory problems, ive ordered a pc3200-512mb ram module. I know my machine is capable of 1.5gb, but this at least gives me a gig of compatible, paired ram and gets rid of the older modules. I'll up it to 1.5gb eventually when funds are a bit better :D
