AlanHo Posted December 8, 2006 Report Share Posted December 8, 2006 My trusty Braun electric shaver is getting old and no longer holds its charge for very long.Time for a replacement - and what better time than Christmas.But what to replace it with - I am looking for a rechargable that can be washed under the tap. Choices are Philips, Braun and Remington.I am tempted to try the Philishave this time but have never used one.Anyone out there who can throw light on the subject and their respective performances....?Guys who wet shave need not reply - I know it's a closer shave - but it does not suit my fine and delicate baby face skin. It can be rinsed with water, and I need to recharge it about once a month. See the Braun website for available models.P.S. I replace the foil and cutter block about every one or two years; I think I can use that model for many years to come. (Braun's recommendation is about every 18 months.) Been busy at work and still am :( Waiting for a recomandation also on an electric shaver. I do prefer the old single removable blade, but I hate shaving and so my girlfriend hates my beard. They are both very good and are washable - which makes keeping them clean easy.The Remington probably gives marginally the closer shave of the two but is not quite as good as the Braun for getting at any stray long hairs. The Braun shaves more quickly and I sometimes start off with the Braun and then go over with the Remington to finish off.It would be great if someone on the forum were able to compare the Philishave performance. Thos Posted December 8, 2006 Report Share Posted December 8, 2006 Years ago I used a single-headed Philishave and it was ok for everyday use but for special occasions I still wet-shaved.A few years ago my son bought me a triple headed Philips and the difference was a revelation. A year ago I felt that the shaving heads needed sharpening or replacing and I was shocked at the cost, it was nearly as cheap to buy a new shaver. I tried a couple of makes including Remington and Braun. Remington did not give as close a shave, Braun did but left my neck sore (perhaps too close a shave) so I bought another Philips, Model HQ 8879 Reflex acton. I loked on E-bay but decided against and bought it finally from "Readers Offers, Daily Telegraph @ about £70. Very oleased with it. It suits me fine.Good luck.Thos. I had one of the original single rotor job in the middle 50s and although slow it did a good job. I then went onto foil types and after slashing my face several times due to cracked/broken foils I returned to Phillishaves. I bought a new one (cheap on the 'net) two years ago, to replace the previous one that had lasted over ten years. I had to replace it because one of the heads got damaged and spares for that model were no longer available.Their prices are weird. I suspect it is something along the lines of catering for the "You get what you pay for" brigade with expensive models, and also catering for "frugal Yorkshiremen".I have found that the performance of the cheap ones is indistinguishable from that of the expansive ones...but I am biased,One thing against them is that they do not give as close a shave as a "good" foil razor, but it's still plenty good enough for a "frugal Yorkshireman!!"
