Deleting duplicate files

HI! This is my first time here. Looks like a great site. I'm not a complete computer illiterate, just challenged. :(

Here is my issue-I have many duplicate .jpg files that I need to get rid of. I don't know how it came to be but some of these photos have eight or nine duplicates. I only need one of each. Is there a way in windows to find and delete duplicate files? The only way I've been able to see how to do it is to search for all .jpg files, sort 'em by size, then manually select and delete the duplicates. I'd have to figure on a full day in front of the computer to do this. I searched the forum for this issue but didn't see it on here anywhere. I am using Windows XP Home. Thanks for any assistance. Hutch

Actually, I did google it but I didn't get what I was looking for. I thought that instead of purchasing or downloading yet another program I'd see if there was a way to do what I wanted through Windows. Thanks for the tip. I'll look at the Copernic program. Hutch

Or you could (This may work) install Copernic Desktop Search. And index everything!
