-pops-
System Restore?Restore from backup?
Panarchy
I think I may have a registry backup if that's what you mean.
andsome
Most of us on here use a third party back up like Acronis, and back up to a separate drive other than C. If you only have one drive in the computer, then a plug in drive is the answer. You can back up the whole of the C drive, and restore this in place of the corrupted O.S. Alan2273
If you have not got a third party back up software, have you tried a system restore to a previous day.Start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system restore/and restore your computer back too when it was working. Panarchy
I have a C drive (40GB)And an E drive (120GB)
andsome
It sounds very much as though you have no system back up at all. Maybe I'm mistaken, but it sounds to me like a reinstall of the O.S. maybe called for. If no one advises differently, then I would suggest after this, that you install Acronis and make a full back up to your second hard drive, the one without the O.S. on it. Panarchy
Is Arconis free? What version is the latest one?
andsome
It isn't free. Personally I don't think you need the very latest. An earlier version is available on this forum to subscribers. It's worth every penny. Ask pops, he drove us all mad until we bought it.
-pops-
The version available here is version 10 - the latest one. I am mystified by the first post here - do you mean that the screenshot is what you get on Windows startup? What exactly is it that you are being asked to open? -pops-
OK but, at what stage in the startup process are you requested to open whatever it is?I'm presuming from your profile that you are using Vista. Odd things happening is one of the penalties of using pre-market software.Having said that, there should be the capability of System Restore so, when you jiggled about with it to get it going, investigate the use of the system Restore facility. I'm not familiar with Vista but, in XP you can access System Restore from the Help & Support page(s).

Panarchy
Well? Can anyone help me? I don't want to format until I get RTM from my friend.
-pops-
I'm still confused. At what point in the start up do the screens that you keep posting appear? When my computers start, I get no screens with even the slightest resemblance to the ones you are showing. If those screens really do appear at startup without any input from you, there is something fundamentally wrong with your operating system. Panarchy
But it has worked in the past. For like a month. Now this. It shows welcome and then the cursor showing busy (normal). Then it opens Documents and it doesn't open explorer.
