MikeFranklin Posted January 10, 2007 Report Share Posted January 10, 2007 I have Talktalk as my ISP. I have tried several times to install Microsoft Live Messenger for my webcam but without success. I am convinced it is because of the presence of F-Security (Talktalk's security) on my computer but I cannot find a way to uninstall it. The usual methods (Add/Remove, Talktalk Uninstall) do not work.I have cleaned out the Registry of all Live Messenger settings, as per their instructions but with no success. I am on Onetel/TalkTalk/AOL and who ever they have aquired this week. Their technical service people are as much use as a chocolate teapot. When I went on to broadband they sent me an instalation disc that installed 'Onecare" or some such name. I had no end of trouble until I wiped it off. It was a bit like ET..it was always ringing home. I recently suffered "issues" (they do not have 'problems') due to one of those newly imported American technology miracles...and "outage". They were unable to tell me approximately how long this outage would last. They took a fortnight to provide me with an 'inage'. One of their subcontinent technical girls asked "vat OS are you using". When I said "Linux" she said "vat iz dat".Doug's pantomime fully illustrates what you are up against, and how efficient they are.Since my debacle ended (I hope) have had an email asking if everything was OK. and saying they were sorry for the inconvenience. I replied politely. I then got a it returned containing a reply to my email, from another person, saying they were pleased that I was now not inconvenienced, and were sorry that I had been inconvenienced, and was everything now O.K.? The second writer could not even get my name right (only 5 letters) even though it appeared a couple of times on the message to which he was replying/returning.Some minutes later I got a formal invitation to give them my opinion of their efficiency and level of service. This was to be done via a series of questions and tick boxes. Fortunately there was a box for "freestyle" assessment at the end of the ten page document.I repeat ...change your ISP. trackrat Posted January 10, 2007 Report Share Posted January 10, 2007 A bit of topic catgate but are you still using Ubuntu, if you are and you have got used to it try Linux Mint, it is 98% Ubuntu but with sound & DVD playback working straight out of the box.
