ddsdavey Posted January 24, 2007 Report Share Posted January 24, 2007 Hi,im really getting fed up with my pc.Basically my computer suffered somekind of major error which after taking advice was told that i need to reinstall xp home sp2.I have reinstalled it via repair and everything went fine and after it finished the installation my problem occurred.When i initially log on i get a window prompt stating that before i can log on i need to activate my xp,fine ok not a problem but then when i click on a usere and the initial menu screen pops up i get the windows activation prompt BUT then it tells me that windows is already activated.Great,fantastic BUT when i click ok to exit it signs off back to the screen where you choose which user to use and basically goes in a circle of what i just mentioned (explained badly,granted.Bloody newbies).How do i actually get to use windows or is there something badly wrong?Obviously i appreciate any help you can offer me.PLEASE!!! ddsdavey Posted January 24, 2007 Author Report Share Posted January 24, 2007 Even if the xp i want to register has been used on a different pc???It is a legitimate xp sp2 disk with an official product key though.Also my issue isnt with the need to activate but more the fact that im on an endless loop of xp saying activat before log on then activation screen appears stating activation is done on this copy which then exits to log on screen again and round and round (and ROUND!!!) we go.I have tried one method that google helped with which involved repairing your old version therefore not actually installing a full new version but still i get this damned screen.Damned if i do,damned if i dont!!!And ive just realised its now my Birthday,the BIG 30!So please could someone help if not based on a need to find the answer then ill settle for pity!!!Cheers.As always,all POSITIVE advice is greatly recieved.P.s. to Panarchy (personally) YES! ddsdavey Posted January 24, 2007 Author Report Share Posted January 24, 2007 Are you stating that this copy of XP is used/has been used on another machine?Yes it was used on my Fathers P.c. but i know people who have installed there version of XP on 3 maybe more P.C.'s and i know about the fact that it could possibly cause you problems in the future but im Disabled and Unemployed and simply cant afford to purchase a new copy.I have been 'advised' about maybe downloading a cracked version but i would rather go without than do that.No offence but however people try and justify cracks,torrents etc. it is not right legally or morally.Lecture over! -pops- Posted January 24, 2007 Report Share Posted January 24, 2007 Well, you've explained why it isn't possible to activate the copy.If the XP copy is a full (not OEM) version of XP and it has been un-installed from the other computer then a call to Microsoft should allow it to be activated again.Otherwise, it is not in order for Windows Forum to condone circumvention of activation codes and is strictly against forum rules.That being the case, Windows Forum is unable to help you. trackrat Posted January 24, 2007 Report Share Posted January 24, 2007 I have just been googling on this activation problem and came across this which cured the problem for that individual.Search for and save the wpa.dbl & the wpa.bak files to another folder, then delete them, and reboot. ddsdavey Posted January 25, 2007 Author Report Share Posted January 25, 2007 I must really be starting to get on your nerves but im afraid i still have the same issue.I have tried searching for the files you mentioned but there was only a wpa\dbl file which i moved and renamed to 1.Restarted and the same message.Is it looking like a brand new copy install?
