trackrat Posted January 31, 2007 Report Share Posted January 31, 2007 A few days ago I recieved a communication from Telewest saying it was changing its name to Virgin Media.Today I recieved my bill for the direct debit only to find that the TV package has gone up by £3 a month.I phoned them up to ask why the increase and was told it is nothing to do with Telewest, it was Virgin that put the prices up so there is nothing that can be done, I was in the verge of telling them what to do with there TV package.I have been with Telewest for 7 years and they have never put the prices up without informing me first.Is this a sign of what is to come now that the Branson mob have a controlling interest. I gave up the NTL TV a long time ago because I had a lot of trouble with their digital boxes. I have now given up Sky, because it is too expensive for the rubbish available. I now use Freeview. This makes very interesting reading: 4i- We reserve the right to monitor and control data volume and/or types of traffic transmitted via the interactive services on your Virgin TV and/or Internet access. In the event that you exceed any usage allowance applicable to your Internet access or your use does not comply with the "acceptable use policy" which you can read on the Virgin Media website, we reserve the right (at our sole discretion) to reduce, suspend or terminate your internet access.......We also reserve the right (at our sole discretion) to re-grade your Internet access to a different speed and/or usage allowance at the appropriate charge.The use of the terms "usage allowance" and "types of traffic" are interesting, the latter obviously aimed at stopping the file sharers from sucking all of the band width up. Usage allowance is a bit fresh as they make great bones about, and still do from the info I received today, that you get unlimited downloads. One thing though, if push comes to shove, there should be little problems in asking BT to reinstate the telephone line, and then go elsewhere for BB. I don't think we would be involved in all this mac code nonsense that Doug had to put up with would we? Please don't tell me I'm wrong. Please don't tell me I'm wrong.If you have a cable connection with NTL then no andsome, you wont need a MAC code to migrate. You only need one if you have broadband that uses BT's network. But I could be wrong and it is hypothetical anyway.Thos.If the worst came to the worst and I decided to change, I would only have the phone line reactivated, and would be offline for a few days. Then I would go elsewhere for a BB connection.Received a letter this morning from Virgin explaining about the merger. No mention of prices at all, it just said that everything would remain the same. They'll try to justify it with some spiel about better service and availability of new add-ons, none of which you'll probably ever use and probably managed fine without for years. trackrat Posted February 1, 2007 Author Report Share Posted February 1, 2007 I have just been on to Telewest and there is no change to the broadband or phone charges, it is just the XL TV package (formally Supreme), so I have changed to the L package which is £10 a month cheaper, and that price did not change. andsome Posted February 1, 2007 Report Share Posted February 1, 2007 So much ion TV these days is utter crap. When I left Sky they tried to make me change my mind with all sorts of special offers. I told them that when they were prepared to offer a choice Chanel by Chanel, so that I could have only the Chanel's that I wanted, then I might consider going back. To me there is little point in paying for a dozen Chanel's that I don't want, in order to get one that I do, is not on, on principal alone.
