Scarecrow Man
If it was anything like my school laptop, they are installed on a Domain, as well has a VPN for acessing wireless, not to mention testing programs that cannot be re-installed.Chances are you are not allowed to acess those things for a reason. I should however mention, that I was able to partition my drive using Partition Magic (I now would use GParted) and install my OWN copy of XP that I had full control over. When I was at school, I booted one of them and at home I booted the other one.
Panarchy
So there is no way I can access the Mouse or Run button?
Scarecrow Man
Run?press ctrl+alt+del (If your on XP Pro, go to the task manger first) and go to File > New Task (Run). As for the mouse, I am not sure. Perhaps it has been disabled by a domain policy. If it has, you cannot open it. Only a domain administrator can re-enable it. Panarchy
Nah, they have removed that option. When you go to task manager the only thing under file is exit.

Coreper
you could also start the run task by pressing the windowslogo button + Ryou can access the mouse control panel by doing: Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices > Propertiesinstalling Xpize might also work, since it changes all you Windows System .exe files, but i wouldnt count on it...you could try to adjust your profile settings to All Rights or somethingsomething else i found: RESTrick Control Panel i think that will help you out
cozofdeath
For the mouse settings try opening the Windows search tool and type *.cpl to find the control panel applets. You should be able to open these without restriction. Just double click each one to open them untill you find the one you want. For the run problem, why not just use the command prompt? Does the Windows+R hotkey work? Also check this registry key...KEY: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ExplorerDWORD: NoRun = 1Make it zero. If you check what all accounts are on the computer and what permissions you have that will help a lot. Do you login differently at home than in school? Panarchy
I can't get run or command prompt to work. How do I access regedit to change those things? Is there a third party one that is good? Thanks coreper I will try that now.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
You could try RegAlyzer; from the same people who make Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
cozofdeath
Ok, so its locked down pretty good. I haven't tried this but I think it should work. Try to get a live cd (a cd/dvd that will run from memory) that way you can work on Windows with out it beening loaded or wanting you to login. I would use it create a new administrator account, from there I would restart and login with that account and change whatever you want. You local changes should not affect your domain account if there is one with your school.

What does it do?EDITThanks I can access Run now.EDITI can access Mouse as well now!
cozofdeath
Thats good. If you can't access something else post back. As long as you can access a command prompt, regedit, or even the task scheduler you should be able to find away to access anything. If you must login to a domain while in school all of this will not work while your connected to the domain.

doug
No I'm not new been here a couple of years. Just look on the left and you will see a brief resume of my status under my Avatar. You'll see this for all postees. I am on the staff as a moderator but I won't stand on ceremony just a deep bow and bang your forehead on the grounds will suffice!
