Taskbar Locked and I can't Unlock it

My taskbar has locked up and i cannot do anything about it, i can't right hand click it or nothing. I went to control panel and unlocked it but its still locked up. I restarted my Laptop and it worked but 2 seconds after a message saying ''Socket Error # 10060 Connection Error'' came up and my taskbar was locked up again. I really have no idea what is wrong, i have tryed everything.

Please help :(

I am not one of the most technical members of this forum. but I did a search and came up with these options. It may be worth looking at one or two of these, until someone more knowledgeable than I comes on-line (and there are many of those) ...

Can some one give me some specific information on what could be wrong. I appreciate the post above but it did not say anything about a locked taskbar.

1.does it work in safe mode?

2. is your email client set to check for new mail every few seconds?

3. is your connection proxy oriented?

4. are you running IIS?

5. what has chenged (hw/sw) prior to this error?

Out of the blue the taskbar just loked itself but i do get this message evertime i start windows too : '' Socket Error #10060 Connection Error. I dont know if it relates to the locked taskbar though but when i looked it on google i didn't understand what it was talking about.

Sorry but i really am quite stupid when it comes to computers.

To get into safe mode, when you start your computer up, repeatedly press the F8 key., then from the menu use the up and down arrows to select safe mode, then press the enter button.

Error 10060 normally means that the site you were trying to connect to did not reply to the request in an allotted time, or could not be contacted at all.

yes, try 'safe mode with networking' (trackrat post), see if it happens again.

btw. could somebody post an article on basic troubleshooting process, it's hard to retype those procedures over and over again, would you agree? (maybe each of those interested could donate a few paragraphs?

I will start of.

BSOD.

Right click the My Computer icon. Select Properties. Click on the Advanced tab. In the Startup and Recovery section at the bottom, click Settings. In the lower section (System Failure) of the next window, uncheck the box that says Automatically Restart.

This will stop your computer on it's blue screen, if you make a note of the error it will give someone a starting point to help you.

You do not need to type the entire error. Just the stop code you recieve.

STOP 0x00000001 APC_INDEX_MISMATCH

That is the line required to provide more information.

Also :

- Whatever you do - HAVE MOST RECENT BACKUP OF YOUR FILES. If you have no access to your gui, boot from windows cd/dvd and xcopy files in 'recovery console' (command prompt in Vista WinRE mode)

- Try booting in "Safe Mode", disable all newly add startup files/services (via msconfig.exe), in "safe mode with networking" you could browse internet for those errors (google, microsoft knowledge base, msdn-technet)

- Boot logged, check for errors in log file.

- Download memtest (http://memtest.org/), run it to check for memory (sometimes it may indicate some deeper problems e.g. mainboard) based errors.

- Remove any new hardware/software you've add before the stop happened.

- Check your BIOS settings (never hurts to do a bios firmware upgrade)
