Unable to Read the CD

Hi I'm using Windows XP, and I'm trying to burn some files onto a CD

When it said to locate the CD, there's nothing there

And further more, when I try to open my CD folder, it always says something like:

"Please Insert CD into CD-Drive"

But some CDs work such as WarCraft III

How do I read my CDs?

Maybe it's a read-only drive, which means that you will not be able to burn CD's :)

If you are using Windows CD burning software, I never had any luck with that either. You need third party software.

Well, it's an empty CD, the ones you can buy at Target, Staples, or something like that. The Disc itself is empty, nothing on it.

Well, I had Alcahol 120%, which is able to read the Disk, but I wasn't able to burn the file because it didn't reconize it. (It's a .cue File, I'm trying to play a really rare Japanese game that is expensive, for the PCE System) So if anyone could actually help with the info I gave, that would be great.

I heard there is a program for it, theres a link in some sort of Cheetah Burner Faq

(A program for alowing your comp to select the D:)

Answer:

Administrative rights are required to burn a CD or DVD.

To give CD/DVD rights to a non-administrative user, do the following:

1) Open 'Control Panel' and click on 'Administrative Tools'.

2) Double click on 'Local Security Policy'.

3) Double click on 'Security Options'.

4) Double click on 'Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on users only'.

5) Click on Enabled.

This service will provide CD/DVD access for any user under NT/XP/2000 regardless of Security Policies.

It would also be ncie if someone tell me how to do the 1-5 stuff

It is Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies > Security Options > "Devices: Restrict CD-ROM acess to locally logged-on user only"

I think this is only available in Windows XP Professional, not XP Home.

It also sounds like you are having a different problem, since you did not set this setting to enabled, there is no reason to change anything.

I believe this may also fix your other problem, in another thread.

Go here and download cdgone.zip. Follow the instructions, reboot and see if you are still having a problem. (It's towards the bottom, "Restore Missing CD Drive. Win XP ONLY!")
