casey Posted February 9, 2007 Report Share Posted February 9, 2007 A friend of mine has a User showing in User Accounts as 'ASP.NET' . He has no idea what it is or where it came from. What he would like to know is, is it safe to delete it. The reason is when he starts his computer he has to log in (no password) every time which he never had to do before. I told him to untick 'use fast user switching in User Accounts' which has removed his need to log in after going to 'standby' but not from switch on.Casey. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.Note When users try to display help information in the User Accounts window in Windows XP Home Edition, the help information is not displayed. Additionally, users receive the following error message:Cannot find the Drive:\Windows\System32\users.hlp Help file. Check to see that the file exists on your hard disk drive. If it does not exist, you must reinstall it. 3. Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box, and then click Apply. 4. In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box. 5. Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then click OK to close the User Accounts window.You can also hide a user from the welcome screen by following these steps.Open Registry Editor. In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserListCreate the following entry: Username: REG_DWORD(Where Username is the username of the user you want to hide from the Welcome Screen).Assign a value of 0. You will need to press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice at the logon screen to get the old W2K logon style box to be able to logon to the account you've hidden. casey Posted February 16, 2007 Author Report Share Posted February 16, 2007 No luck with with Scarecrow Man's suggestion. When trying this & re-starting the computer it comes up with "The system could not log you on. Make sure your User Name & domain are correct, then type your password again". The log in picture is in the background.In the User Accounts box his name is not shown just a list,Administrator ASP.net User His name appears in Properties under user, so tried inserting password under that.I also tried to change User to Brian. No luck. Enter the name AND password (blank if there is none) and it should work.The reason you get this error is probably because the username or password was incorrect. I should also point out, that you can change your username in the user control panel. You MUST use your original name. casey Posted February 21, 2007 Author Report Share Posted February 21, 2007 I tried that now, still no luck. Did what you said & restarted, it reached where the log in screen would normally show then there was a bleep from the case speaker then it locked up. I had to start up in safe mode and set it back before windows would start again.Probably leave it alone now, no problem just annoying.
