If you want something to be able to plug in and use then Windows is the way to go. There are plenty of add-ons for it but little you can do to the system itself by way of improving it (although it is very easy to wreck it).Linux, on the other hand, is excellent if you want to "fiddle about" with the computer and carry out alterations/modifications to the system. It will do just about all that Windows will do (OK, perhaps not quite so conveniently) and is highly suitable if you have more than just a sit down and use it attitude to computing.There is no reason why you can't have both Windows and Linux running on one machine or you can run some types of Linux from CD. Gradually, as you get used to one or the other, you will find out which one you consider to be better and then use that as you default system.Very important is the matter of cost. Now that Vista is around with its huge price tag and Linux is free, or almost so, the economics of one over the other becomes significant. Seshomaru Samma Posted February 21, 2007 Report Share Posted February 21, 2007 my personal opinion is :if you like computers use linux , it's flexible ,interesting , cutting edge and with endless possibilities (it's also free) .make sure you start with a friendly version of linux like ubuntu if you want something that 'just works' , if you have no time and interest in tweaking your computer and setting it just the way you like but would rather just have everything work out of the box - use windows xp Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You will be able to learn much more that way and you will be able to pick your favorite or which you choose to work with more. I find when working with them both you can compare many things. With both operating systems you will never be able to learn everything about them but with Linux things can seem harder because of how detailed things are but if you want to get into computers there is really no better OS to work with. But you'll probably see Windows everywhere you go so you'll want to know about it too. But if you install both you'll have the best of both worlds and you'll be able to work with partitioning, boot loaders and all that good stuff.
