Windows Is Acting up

Recommended Posts

Okay.

I'm a little pissed right now...

My Windows XP Professional SP1 had no sound.

I looked around, and I found some update that's supposed to fix it.

I need XP Pro SP 2 to get it.

I need IE5+ to get that.

And I get frozen in IE setup (5 and 6 - it's funny, I need SP2 to get IE7. How ironic.)

And I can't start up properly.

My icons stop loading mid-way and I freeze on the start menu.

Help?

If you are still running on XP SP1, your Windows installation is GROSSLY out of date and you really should get it updated with SP2 and all the following security (and other) updates as soon as possible.

Your computer is vulnerable to all sorts of attacks without these updates and not only via the Internet. Malware infections can come from many different and possibly unexpected places.

I have seen similar symptoms where SP2 has been installed on malware-infected computers. Please make 100% sure that you have no malware on your system before you install SP2!

Restore to the point before SP2, run virus and spyware checks, then install SP2.
