ErrorKiller
All of a sudden tonight my computer gives me that nonsense and I have to shut it down hard. Then I can't get it to start without that ugly festering blue screen for about 4 tries and then finally it boots up right. Then 2 hours later it pulls the same crap only takes WAY more times to get started. This time I update windows then restart hoping all will be well but it isn't. The same useless blue screen and idiotic error. I'd appreciate it greatly if someone could tell me where I could find the bits on my computer causing this error so I can rid the world of them. I fear for the safety of my data! Especially considering I don't have enough discs on hand to back up all my stuff.
-pops-
Can you tell us the next part of the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL message please? There should be a Stop error with a code something like 0x???????? where the ? is a series of digits and letters, mainly zeros.Have you made any recent alterations to your machine? Installed any new hardware or software? Updated any drivers? Are there any warnings in the Event Viewer?Regarding backups, you should ALWAYS have a backup of anything of any value whatsoever in your computer. That's what's weird. And I run the virus scanner daily and it updates as often.
-pops-
Event viewer:RIGHT click My Computer and click Manage. Event Viewer will appear in the tree at the left. Click on the + sign and go through each category in turn. Look out for yellow triangles with "!" marks and anything in red. What are the numbers/letters associated with the IRQL message? Scarecrow Man
you can also use start > run > eventvwrThe reason we need the code following the error, is there are many different errors that have that same message.http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?m...t_less_or_equal
ErrorKiller
I'll have to get those numbers. Obviously I'll have to wait for it to do it again (but I'm not at the comp now). It's sounding to me though as though I'll probably have to re-install windows. -pops-
If your computer has previously been running OK and you haven't made any changes, it suggests that you have an impending component failure or an intermittent connection within the machine. Either way, the Stop error code should give a clue as to what is going on.

So this Event Viewer will have made a log of the errors that happened thusfar?
Scarecrow Man
Yes. Event viewer makes a log entry every time something happens to your computer. From the smallest program startup, to the most major failure.

From the smallest program startup, to the most major failure.Ok, well I couldn't get that POS to fire up long enough to look at the event viewer, but I did of course manage to see 2 blue screens. The first one occurred while the computer was in windows and spontaneously crashed. It said: STOP then the sequence of numbers read:0x0000008E (0xC0000005,0x804F4BE7,0xAFF2BC2C,0x00000000)Then when I tried to reboot I got this:IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL0x0000000A (0x00A9454B,0x000000FF,0x00000000,0x805710A2)

LOOK HEREThis might help with 0xC000005ALSO, Check this for 0x0000000A As far as concerns the RAM issue, that one seems to only apply during setup. When that error occurred, I was not doing any sort of setup at all.
-pops-
In regard to the RAM issue, it is possible for it to fail in use. Check if you have more than one stick of RAM installed and if you do, remove one then the other in turn, booting between each change and see if the problem is rectified. It said at the bottomSYSTEM_LICENSE_VIOLATION

Scarecrow Man
chkdsk is for NTFS, whereas scandisk is only for fat and fat32.
