Yes, the free ZA now contains the whole enchilada, that's why I start uninstalling things like MailFrontier right after the update.Thank goodness I am not going banana's then :D But thing is do I need this update as I have the firewall only really.All the rest got gottted after the 15 day trial Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted April 1, 2007 Report Share Posted April 1, 2007 In another forum someone suggested to download ZoneAlarm Pro instead - the download is only 15MB, and has a lot less undesired features than "the whole enchilada" free version. The trial will also end after a few weeks (15 or 30 days), and it will revert to the original free version.Today I had a big problem when trying to upgrade one XP system to the 7.0.337.0 "enchilada" version, so I decided to go ahead with the Pro version. This worked out great, and I think this is what I am going to do in future with all computers under my care.But... if CheckPoint is also going to enchiladaize the Pro version, then I think the time has come to say goodbye to ZoneAlarm Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Regarding the "enchiladas" - please read the initial post by Lamb Chop; ZA (free) 6.5 was 13.0MB, 7.0 is a 38.8MB download. This is the same size as ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite - the "whole enchilada". ZoneAlarm Pro is only 15 MB and has a lot less of the undesired features than the free (whole enchilada) version.Regarding the problems I had on one of my computers (Windows XP Pro). During the upgrade installation (the ZA installer prompts you if you want to "upgrade" or "clean install") I got some DLL error, the install aborted, and afterwards I was unable to do anything on Windows. I could not start any program (not a valid Windows image), I could not shut down (only the logoff button was visible), it would not even log off, and the whole Start menu had disappeared (except for the ZA entries).How did I get out of this? I did a hard Power Off, then rebooted into Safe Mode. In there I did a "clean" uninstall (see how to do a clean uninstall), ran a CHKDSK, rebooted into normal Windows, and installed ZA Pro. Couldn't get on.Tried registering again, wouldn't work.Kept getting this message saying alphanumeric something other.What does that mean? tried changing password to numbers only, that didn't work either, so did what I was always told if at first it don't work, don't be stupid give up. Blasted unfriendly these days is Zone Alarm. May have to try some other program.I actually liked the firewall free version, this one is not good,.I got rid of the nag screen by ticking later and changing it to 60 days.Time to find out if I need it, this update, because I sure could not find out what is was.
