ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Tokyoites are blessed with an incredible range of cuisines available, but I was still surprised when someone took me to a Belarus restaurant – I didn’t know there was such a cuisine! Minsk (03-3586-6600; www.minsk.tokyo.walkerplus.com) offers Belarus home cooking, and is located near Roppongi 1-chome on the Azabudai side. The menu is in Japanese and English and offers some very interesting items! We started with a beetroots & sardine salad and pickled mushrooms. From the warm starters we tried blinchiki pancakes with cabbage or chicken filling, stuffed paprika with sour cream and hot sauce, and salmon croquettes with a very tasty bacon-cream sauce. As mains we selected beef stroganoff, potato patties, and a selection of meat dumplings. All was really good home cooking taste and very satisfying! Wines are mostly from Georgia – all unknown to me, with some difficult Cyrillic labels. However owner/manager/waitress Viktoryia Barysiuk is happy to explain and recommend her wines. There are also some better-known European wines from Moldavia, such as Chardonnay or Cabernet-Sauvignon. Dessert includes an interesting item called kotori-no-milk – small birds’ milk cake. Mrs. Barysiuk explained that this expression is used in Belarus to express something that does not exist in this world, or “out of this world” in our language. And although I tasted it, I would be unable to describe it. It is certainly worth a try. Another item we enjoyed was Lazy Vareniki – cookies served with a sauce. AlanHo
I see you are on a low calorie diet since you skipped the cheese and biscuits and liquer afterwards.
-pops-
Sounds similar to a Russian restaurant that was on Great Portland Street in London many years ago. Not a place to go if you were on a diet but otherwise excellent!
andsome
Sounds good, at least there was no raw fish.
