How to make Re-subscribing difficult.

I received an Email today telling me that my Forum subscription expires today. It included a link which I expected to take me to a new subscription page - but instead it opened a page that just recorded my current subscription without, so far as I could readily see, the means to subscribe for another year.

So I trundled over to my profile - clicked "Controls" and opened the page titled "Purchase Paid Subscriptions". Nah - that only told me what I already knew - the record of last year's subscription. Yet again no means of subscribing.

After a good scratch of my head and nether regions to give me inspiration - I resorted to looking at the pinned pages in the "forum Related issues" board and found a thread entitled "Windows Forum Subscription" by Craig. Surely this would reveal the secret of how to send money to your favourite forum. I opened the thread in great expectation - and not a little excitement - to read all the benefits of subscribing and to find a link called "View your subscriptions" - perhaps this was the route to the holy grail. However - this link simply opened the forum home page and was nowt to do with subscriptions. Not just disappointing - but very misleading and surely a reason to complain to Brussels.

So here I am, with £7.50 burning a hole in my hot little hand - and clueless how to get it to its intended destination.

I can only imagine that the secret door perhaps only opens once you are no longer a subscriber - your subscription has expired - and you have been cast out into the common herd. Thus placing you in a situation where you have to bribe yourself back in.

I bet I am going to be embarrassed by being told there was an obvious way - but never mind - it proved elusive to me.

I wonder if this assault course has ever put anyone off from re-subscribing...... ;)

You will not be embarrassed, i do infact, feel you have a good leg to stand on if you were to complain to Brussels!

I'm pleased that my link didn't work on my Subscription Topic, as this would have resulted in a temporal shift taking you back to the beginning of your travels and thus causing you to implode!

Anyway, I shall fix the link in my topic, but this still doesn't fix the fact that you cannot renew you subscription until you have been cast out of the subscription group (something i should take up with Invision).

As compensation for all your troubles, while you are in the transitional phase of subscriber - nonsbuscriber - subscriber, I will make sure Andsome is at hand to cater for you every need :D

I too have just lost my Subscriber status. My cheque will be posted on Monday morning, so hopefully I shouldn't be just a plain ordinary forum user for much longer. Surely it would be better when we get our reminder, if this was sent a day or two earlier, and if it included Craig's address for a cheque. I don't personally want to open a Pay pal account for this one thing.

I don't personally want to open a Pay pal account for this one thing.

I closed my PayPal account last year as I found the purchase process frustrating and although my account was verified, I couldn't buy anything as the transaction page kept 'timing out'

I contacted PayPal and they insisted nothing was wrong but clearly there was a problem!

I am happy t pay by any means that does not involve opening an account. I am happy to pay on line with a credit card, or send a cheque as in this case. my cheque should arrive with you on Tuesday, as I will post it this morning.

P.S. Thanks for reinstating my subscriber status since I informed you that I was posting the cheque. :D

Craig also did this for me whilst I informed him that I also had posted the cheque postal order (back last year)

I don't have a cheque book account - I just remembered hence the edit!

Tha day after my subscription expired - I was able click onto the subscription site and given the payment options. I chose paypal and my subscriber status was restored.

From what Craig says - it is an Invision issue which he hopes to address.

Meanwhile - I would suggest that the link that provides your subscription status - should provide a clear message that you cannot resubscribe until the day after your current subscription ends. This would have saved me a lot of frustrating browsing.

Now that I am expired I tried to click on the Subscribe button on the top of the forum. There is no information on how to subscribe around where that button leads me.

P.S. The same happens if I click on the Acronis or SetupStudio buttons, it just ends up at the 'Home' address. Maybe only subscribers can use these buttons...?

It's the same for me - and I am a subscriber again. The links are clearly wrong.

It's Craigs idea of an initiative test. I got through - you have not yet found the secret door, even though you have a yen to....

Pat, has Alan been at your bank account, stealing your yen? :D

The links were all screwed; but now fixed!

...and anyone can click and view those topics.

Now the Subscribe button leads to a locked forum topic with a link 'View Your Subscriptions' that again redirects to the forum home...

It's working now...

Just tried it myself. It takes you round in circles.

Not anymore. :P

Indeed; it now goes to the page where I could re-subscribe. Before I do that, I have one more question: the extras I got as a subscriber - the 10BM attachments, the 10MB for photo albums, etc - have they been wiped, or will they magically reappear if I re-subscribe?
