Dencandy Posted April 30, 2007 Report Share Posted April 30, 2007 Can I stop emails which I've opened from my Inbox being marked as Unopened when I move them to a folder? It's very annoying because I then have to open the already read message again to mark it as read. For some reason 'mark as read' is not available when viewing messages from Inbox. Welcome to the Forum. :) I use Outlook, not Express, but when I move mail from my inbox to a different folder, it does not revert to an unread status. I just right-click the email and select Move to Folder...If you don't already do it that way, perhaps you could try that. I am personally at a loss as to why it should show as unread after the move. It's emails from my To Be Dealt With folder stored locally which then get re-marked Unopened when I place them in the Hotmail (Server) folder from my local folders after having dealt with them. Dencandy Posted May 27, 2007 Author Report Share Posted May 27, 2007 IE7- I know it's a different topic but this is the experience I had with IE7 and why I called it "incompatible" with Windows XP and Outlook Express: 1- approx 1 occasion in 5 it failed to load on bootup and I had to re-boot in order to use it. 2- approx 1 occasion in the 4 that it did load properly, it then crashed within 10 minutes: "Internet Explorer has run into a problem...etc" So that meant it only ran properly 3 times out of 5. In addition, if I tried to run Outlook Express after using IE7, OE wouldn't load unless I disconnected from the Internet then reconnected again! But everything went back to normal smooth efficiency when I uninstalleed IE7 and reverted to good ole IE6! From what I've read on other forums, these are not uncommon experiences. Irene, you're fortunate, others aren't. Scarecrow Man Posted May 27, 2007 Report Share Posted May 27, 2007 May be way off on this one, but...You can set up mail rules, so that when a message is from a certain person, or the subject contains a certain word (and MANY more options), it is moved to a specific folder. I use the Hotmail server for the bulk of all my old correspondence or for matters that don't need a reply. Also I can then access them via my Hotmail acount from some one else's computer or Internet cafe when I'm travelling. Can't do that with files stored on my home computer can I? I think I've found the solution to the problem of emails held temporarily offline being marked as Unopened again when they're transferred back to the server for long-term filing. Simply open the file on the server telling you (incorrectly) that there's unopened mail, go to Tools and select Synchronize File. Voila! all unopened messages become opened. Just use Synchonize on each folder and all the previously opened messages that became unopened because of moving them back and forth between the server files and your downloaded files become opened again.
