The mother of all democracies is showing signs of dementia

Elections marred by vote problems

BBC

Thousands of ballot papers have been spoilt, officials said

Scotland's parliamentary elections have been hit by major problems with many counts suspended and an unprecedented number of spoilt ballots recorded.

There are fears the national figure for spoilt ballots could exceed 100,000.

In some places in Scotland the spoilt ballots are greater in number than that of the actual winner

Deliberate protest ? overcomplicated voting system ? or have fried mars bars caused a signifigant drop in IQ ooop north

Perhaps if your too stupid to understand the instructions ,is it better that your vote doesnt count ...?

In Taffy land ..Rhodri Morgan is now frantically burning the phone lines attempting to assemble a coalition in the Assembly .... as labour have lost its working majority

the conservatives may now be considered a party for the English

There was a time, before everything was "improved" by expert consutants, when this sort of thing would not have occured.

Scotland looks like becoming a Third World Porridge Republic and England, which is halfway there already, will follow shortly.

I was struck by an odd thought yesterday.

If a Leader is elected to do "the will of the people" how can he claim that what he has done is hislegacy? Surely it is the legacy of the people, whose "will" he has carried out?

Got his just deserts didn't he? The only problem is that no one in the party who has any chance of succeeding him, has the courage to stand for election, so we look like being landed with Brown. This will almost certainly prove to be a case of 'out of the frying pan, and into the fire'.

Yes he did and I think that Labour's poll results would have been worse if it wasn't common knowledge that Blair has already decided to step down as otherwise the anti-blair vote would have been bigger (in my opinion) leading to an even worse electoral performance for Labour.

so we look like being landed with Brown.

He's just as bad in my book with his stealth taxation policies.

Deliberate protest ? overcomplicated voting system ?

I would guess that it's a mixture of both but in what proportions no one will ever know

:D

Yes as Labour have to do deals with the other parties in order to run the Welsh assembly and Scottish parliament which will probably 'dilute' their own policies as there are bound to be differing points of view from the opposing parties!

Heh ...Glaswegian head kisser John Reid is going to step down from the cabinet (get in there before "the man who stole your pension" shuffels him out) to "make way for newer fresher blood "

Bloody Lord Falconer is probably going to get the first heave ho on el Gordo's shoe in ..... (excellent)

"legal challenges" already in Scotland to question the legality of the SNP's win concerning their 3rd world election process .

47 to 46 seats and one seat was won by the SNP by less than 50 votes (with over a thousand defaced rejections on the same seat ) the chads are them there Mc hanging ....

Maybe they should go and ask Mugabe on advice on how to run a legal and valid election ....

Farce

According to Rt Rev beloved the result is "a springboard from which to win the next elections"

reality is a stranger here !

I saw an interesting news item on line this morning about the poll pukcoc (that will fool the censor).

It appears that Lord Kinnock was appointed to the board of the company that has made such a memorable mark on the Scottish electoral process. It was after this master stroke of board selection that the company got the job of providing this latest example of our governments total ineptitude regarding refreshments and breweries.

heh ...thought so too

What may be even more amusing is that Brown may get Portillo'd at the next election ..... I wonder how secure that his seat is , now that the SNP have taken neighbouring constituencies ....

In the words of Thatcher ....Rejoice rejoice ......I hope
