Forum newbie here,

directdbnotify Has anyone seen this before? At first, had to reboot to get OE to open, didn't make any changes, now it opens and hangs, hourglass. I have found very little on Google about this. When I reboot, window opens and says, directDBnotify will not close, I click "end task". After searching "files and folders", can't find anything that resembles this "program". *.dbx files were mentioned on some sites but can't find them on PC either. HELP.......need my mail

thnx, Bob

Your message may arise because there might be too many messages in OE ? Have you compacted the folders at all ?

Your .dbx files will be in :-

C:\Documents and Settings\"Your own user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{"folder with a long and complicated name"}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

+

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{"folder with a long and complicated name"}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Boris,

I admit to not being the sharpest knife in the drawer  , however on "search" on "c" reveals no results for .dbx files......???????????????? The folders in OE are emptied regularly. Right now I have 17-inbox and the rest are empty

If you can open OutlookExpress, you can find the direct link to your store folder, by going to Tools > Options > Maintainence and clicking the Store Folder button. You can then copy this entire path, and paste it into start > run

If Outlook Express does not open, you will have to do it manually as Boris says.

To find them, make sure 'hide hidden files and folders' is turned on. Open an explorer window (my computer) and go to Tools > Folder Options > View and look for the 'hide hidden files and folders' option, and disable it. Click ok, and navigate as Boris says:

Mine for example is

C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{XXXXXXXX-CFB4-4XXE-AXX3-1XXXC4EDXXX}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

(the X is just a place holder)

More trouble......

OE only works once, on startup, need to reboot to get it to work

Latest error message "Qurb unable to open log file: c:\documents and settings.........qurb 4\express\qurb.log error: the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

This thing is driving me nuts.....short trip. I KNOW there is someone here smarter then me....HELP

thnx, Bob

Thanks Irene, however, there is nothing there that address the problem. I still have to reboot to get OE to work. When I reboot I get a window that opens saying, "directdbnotifywnd" will not close. Nowhere on MS can I find out what that is.

That only showed up the first time I rebooted and everytime since.

On the troubleshoot link you gave me it mentioned "folder.dbx".....searched "C", not there....I'm lost

Are you using WindowsXP SP2? You can find out by going to start > run > winver

If you are not using SP2. Please install it from the following website: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

You may also want to run a system file check, to ensure your files are not corrupted. To do this, go to start > run > sfc /scannow

 Hello Dusty - I see that your post is back from May and was not quite resolved. It was one of the only references to the "QURB4.LOG" error I could find in a web search. I am having the same issue. I am running Vista and using Windows Mail, but when I go to open Mail I get the message, "Unable to open log file: [followed by the path to the folder containing QURB4.LOG]". I noted that the message did not come from Windows, but from my antivirus program, which is CA antivirus V 8.4. Do you also run this antivirus? Has anything worked over all this time? I'll let you know if I come up with anything, but at this point I am stumped. Windows Mail DOES open after I close about 4 error messages related to QURB. It is all very annoying, but then everything about Vista is annoying. After 6 months of working with it, I hate it more every day.

Hey S man,

I am running sp2 and did the scan but did not find any report?????????????????????

This is why so many of us on here prefer to wait, and let others sort out the problems first. :D

I just recieved an identical Qurb.log error, and found this thread on Google. For what it is worth, I also run CA Antivirus 8.4. I'll check the CA website to see if it may be related....

Thanks!
